Lula government will benefit more than 114,000 families with free cooking gas in Acre

Acre will have 114,483 families included in the People’s Gas Program, launched on Thursday (4) by President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in Belo Horizonte (MG). The initiative guarantees free gas cylinders for low -income families across the country.

The program replaces the gas aid and will have transition phase in 2025. The difference is that instead of cash transfer, the gas will be delivered directly to the beneficiary in accredited resale, without intermediaries. The valley will be digital and validated electronically at the time of withdrawal. The government estimates distributing 65 million cylinders per year, with an expected investment of R $ 3.57 billion by 2025 and R $ 5.1 billion in 2026.

According to the federal government, more than 15.5 million families, the equivalent of about 50 million people, will be served in all regions of Brazil. The Northeast concentrates the largest number of beneficiaries, with 7.1 million families contemplated, followed by the Southeast (4.4 million), North (2.1 million), South (1.1 million) and Midwest (889 thousand).

To be entitled, it is necessary to be registered in the Cadastro Único (CadÚnico), with per capita income of up to half a minimum wage (R $ 759), with priority for families who already receive Bolsa Familia. The amount of cylinders varies according to the size of the family group: up to three per year for two members; up to four for three members; and up to six for families with four or more people.

IBGE data show that 12.7 million families still use firewood along with the gas cylinder, representing 17% of Brazilian homes.

By announcing the program, President Lula stressed that the goal is to reduce social and economic inequalities: “A person cannot spend 10% of the minimum wage to buy gas. We will take this responsibility and ensure that poorer families receive the cylinder for free,” he said.
