An accident during the construction of a Petrobras platform at the Hanwha shipyard in Geoje, South Korea resulted in the death of Brazilian worker Rodrigo Reis, employee of the state.
The case occurred on Tuesday (2), when a platform structure collapsed during a load test, causing the employee to fall into the sea.
Rodrigo Reis worked as a construction supervisor and was about 30 years old. According to Changwon’s Coast Guard, he was rescued about 1:30 later, in cardiorespiratory arrest, and taken to the hospital, but could not resist, local newspapers said.

In a statement, Petrobras said it regretted “informing the death of employee Rodrigo Reis Barreto, during the P-79 platform system tests, under construction in South Korea”.
The company claim that it is providing all the assistance to family members. And has already formed a commission to investigate the causes of the incident.
The Single Federation of Oil Tankers (FUP) has expressed regret: “It is inadmissible for a worker to leave home to sell his workforce and do not return to his family. Each lost life is an open wound that we cannot accept,” said the entity’s general coordinator, Deyvid Bacelar.

The accident occurred during the construction of the P-79 platform, which was expected to operate in Brazil in 2026, in the field of Buzios 8, located in the pre-salt of the Santos Basin. It is a unit proper to Petrobras, capable of producing 180,000 barrels of oil per day.
Normally, Petrobras makes the first stage of the assembly of platforms abroad, and then finishes in Brazil.
