Since 0h on Tuesday (2), 39 new electronic inspection radars have been operating on the state highways. They were installed by the São Paulo Roads Department (DER-SP), linked to the Secretariat of Environment, Infrastructure and Logistics (semil). In all, 151 radars are in operation on the São Paulo highways.

The radars were installed in strategic sections and properly signaled with the allowed speed limit. The installation of new devices aims to reinforce road safety, expand accident prevention and contribute to saving lives. “The installation of radars reinforces the commitment of the government of São Paulo to safety on the highways and the goal of reducing accidents to zero,” said Sergio Codelo, president of DER-SP.

The equipment is part of the contract signed from Notice No. 145/2023, which provides for the implementation of 649 radars at strategic points of more than 12 thousand kilometers of not granted state highways. The choice of each point results from technical mapping that considers factors such as accident history, speeding, geometric characteristics of the road, critical points and areas with animal crossing. The other planned radars follow in the implementation phase, undergoing tests and approval before operating.
