Galvão Bueno revealed that he indirectly participated in the conversations that preceded Carlo Ancelotti’s choice as coach of the Brazilian team. In an interview, the narrator stated that he suggested the name of the Italian to the then president of CBF, Ednaldo Rodrigues, in a meeting held during the 2022 World Cup at Qatar.
According to Galvão, in an interview with Folha de S.Paulo, the invitation to the meeting took place on the eve of the match against South Korea, valid for the round of 16. He reported that during lunch Ednaldo sought to hear opinions about the team’s future after Tite’s departure.
“I said Tite made it very clear that he would no longer be coach of the national team the day she left the World Cup. So it would be good to announce a substitute the next day of Tite’s fall. He asked me what I thought, and I replied: It depends, do you want a Brazilian or foreigner coach?”, Said the narrator.
Also according to Galvão, Ednaldo Rodrigues said he intended to bet on a name from outside the country. It was at this moment that the narrator nominated Ancelotti, highlighting the coach’s experience with Brazilian players.
“I already suspected it and he said to me, ‘I want a foreign coach.’ So I said: for me there is only one: Ancelotti. He worked with more than 30 Brazilians. In that team that was going to face Korea, four holders were from Real Madrid,” he added.
Ancelotti was confirmed as coach of in 2025 after fulfilling the last year of contract with Real Madrid. Today, he leads him in the dispute of the South American qualifiers and preparing for the 2026 World Cup.
