Xi Jinping reaffirmed that China’s willingness to deepen the ties with North Korea “will remain unchanged, regardless of changes in the global scenario”
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un expressed to China’s president, Xi Jinping, the “unwavering will” of deepening relations between the two countries, the North Korean official press said today.
According to KCNA news agency, the North Korean leader stated that “the feelings of friendship between the Democratic People’s Republic and China will not change, what happens on the international scene.”
“The will of the Korea Workers Party [partido único] and the RPDC government [sigla oficial da Coreia do Norte] To continually develop relations with China is unshakable, ”said Kim, during the bilateral meeting held in Beijing on Thursday.
The day before, the North Korean leader met in the Chinese capital with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Hours earlier, Kim participated, alongside Xi and Putin, at the Military Parade held at Tiananmen Square, in Beijing, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II in the Pacific – a symbolic gesture that generated criticism of the West.
US President Donald Trump accused the three leaders of “conspiring against the United States,” while the European Union’s head of diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, classified the meeting as a “direct challenge” to the international order.
According to KCNA, Kim assured that Pyongyang will continue to “invariably” China’s efforts to defend his sovereignty, territorial integrity and national interests.
Xi Jinping reaffirmed that China’s willingness to deepen the ties with North Korea “will remain unchanged, regardless of changes in the global scenario.”
“The friendship between the peoples of North Korea and China remains constant, regardless of changes in the world,” Kim said, praising the “warm welcome” received in Beijing, according to images released by Chinese state television CCTV.
The meeting between Kim and Xi was the first since 2019. The two countries have maintained narrow relations since the Korea War (1950-1953), in which Beijing has militarily supported Pyongyang.
Although China’s political, diplomatic and economic support is crucial to North Korea’s regime, Kim’s growing alignment with Moscow in the context of the Ukraine war is seen with reservations by Chinese analysts.
Kim arrived in Beijing on Tuesday, accompanied by his daughter, Kim Ju-AE, and sister, Kim Yo-Jong. This was his second trip abroad in six years and the first to China since 2019.
The North Korean leader’s armored train was spotted to leave Beijing on Thursday night.
