Project foresees investment of more than R $ 6 billion, being R $ 5.1 billion funded by the federal government in partnership with the state of São Paulo
It rejected him, on Thursday (4), the request of the Public Prosecution Service to suspend the auction of the Santos-Guarujá tunnel, on the coast of São Paulo. The bidding is confirmed for this Friday (5), at 16h, at B3, in São Paulo. The project foresees investment of more than R $ 6 billion, being R $ 5.1 billion funded by the federal government in partnership with the state of São Paulo. The winning company will be responsible for the construction and operation of the underground connection for the next 30 years.
Deputy Attorney Lucas Rocha Furtado had requested the suspension of the event, claiming that the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) would be favoring foreign companies over the nationals, still affected by the effects of Operation Lava Jato. According to him, Brazilian companies, such as Odebrecht, would face difficulties to participate.
Currently, foreign companies Accio (Spain) and Mota-Engil (Portugal) emerge as main candidates for the project. Rapporteur of the case, Minister Bruno Dantas denied the suspension, arguing that the prosecutors were based on journalistic reports and did not have evidence of favoring or restricting Brazilian companies.
The Santos-Guardian tunnel will be the largest in Latin America and should benefit about 78,000 people who cross daily between the two cities, as well as improve logistics in the port of Santos, the largest in South America. The work has been claimed for over 100 years by residents of the region.
