Tuberculosis in Slovakia: Significant difference in the number of cases compared to previous years

In 2024, 135 cases of tuberculosis (TB) were reported in Slovakia, a year -on -year decline of 39 percent. Most of the diseases have occurred in children aged five to nine years (22 cases) and children under four years of age (19). Tuberculosis is an infectious disease most commonly affecting the lungs. It is transmitted by air, spreading with coughing or sneezing. A longer close contact with the patient is required to get infected. In most people, defense mechanisms suppress the infection, only about ten percent of infected people become ill. Treatment is long -term and requires a combination of several medicines over six to nine months.
