Denisa Saková appealed to the Ukrainian Minister of Energy Svitlana Hrynčuková to preserve the uninterrupted flow of oil, which she believes is vital to Slovakia.

It is necessary to preserve the uninterrupted flow through the Druzhba pipeline, which is crucial for the energy security of Slovakia and the entire Central European region. This was emphasized by the Minister of Economy Denisa Saková (Voice-SD) during Friday (5 September) of the meeting with the Ukrainian Minister of Energy Svitlana Hrynčuková in Uzhhorod. She did so, following the recent attacks on oil infrastructure in Russia by Ukraine. TASR informed about it from the Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic.

Disagreement on the supply of Russia but match the need for diversification

The Minister’s bilateral negotiations agreed that energy is currently one of the most important topics for both countries. In the national interest, it is for them to effectively use the existing energy infrastructure for transport and supply natural gas and oil, as well as the implementation of investments in the modernization and increase of capacity on electrical links.

“The priority remains the transport of gas and continuing the supply of oil through the Druzhba pipeline. We have a different view of the continuation of supplies from Russia on both topics, but we have a mutual interest in developing joint diversification projects that will be economically beneficial for both parties,” Sakova said. One example is the Odessa-Brody diversification project for oil supplies.

The plan is to strengthen the link with Ukraine

The head of the Ministry of Economy also recalled that Slovakia helps Ukraine actively in the field of electricity. In 2025, more than 2000 GWh of electricity exported to Ukraine, which, in her opinion, significantly contributed to the stability of the local electricity system. In addition, it provided more than 60 GWh of emergency assistance during crisis situations.

An important part of the negotiations was therefore also a project for increasing capacity on electrization cross -border interconnection of Veľké Kapušany – Mukachevo. It should contribute to the increase in capacity and strengthening the energy security of both countries.

Saková was part of the delegation of the Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic Robert Fico (Smer-SD) during a meeting with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Greeding and Ukrainian Prime Minister Julia Svyrydenkova.
