Funeral will be held this Saturday (6), at the Armani Theater, gathering family, friends and hundreds of admirers who pay the last tribute to the Italian designer
Hundreds of people went this Saturday (6) in even hours before its opening, to the stylist’s wake an Italian fashion institution in the world and to whom everyone admired for their creativity, but also for their business instinct. The funeral, which will also remain open on Sunday, was installed at the Armani Theater on Bergognone 59 Street in Milan, where Armani charged the Japanese architect Tadao walking around a huge building that opened in 2015, dedicated to creativity, with offices, exhibition spaces for parades and other cultural events.
Where Armani had his collections during the fashion weeks of Milan, the coffin was placed in the almost total darkness with a branch of white flowers and a flashlight carpet with a wardish plate with a crucifix and the presence of a guard of honor of the carabiners, military body and safety of Italy. Behind the coffin, a large screen shows the smiling portrait of the man known as the “king” of Italian fashion and the phrase that was chosen as his will: “The legacy I hope to leave is the commitment to respect and care for people and reality. That’s where it all begins.”
Next to the Armani coffin were Lell’orco, his life companion in the last 20 years, Federico Marchetti, founder of Yoox, faithful friend and member of the Board of Directors of Giorgio Armani Spa, and his nephews, including Andrea Camerana, one of his main collaborators. The family has always been close to the designer. Among the people who expected the opening of the wake was architect Stefano Boeri, who did not enter the reserved entrance to the personalities, and line up as many visitors: “In my opinion, it is the most correct way to be there,” the architect told the press.
“A recognized icon and gave us in the sport world an unmistakable style; we are the most envied. For us, Giorgio Armani will be unforgettable; he has made Italy great and helped make the sport become big,” said Luciano Buonfiglio, president of the Italian National Olympic Committee (Coni), when leaving the funeral, remembering the owner of the Basketball team Olimpia Milano and the Italian team uniform designer for the Olympic Games.
One of the first to arrive was the president of Stellantis and Ferrari and grandson of Gianni Agnelli, John Elkann, with his wife Lavinia Borromeo, followed shortly thereafter by the mayor of Milan, Beppe Sala. “Milan is full of Armani; it will be impossible to forget it. He starts from Milan with his absolute conviction at work as a personal and professional means of fulfillment. It is a value that Milan will never lose. It was a great Milanese who did so much for this city,” said Sala.
On the occasion of Giorgio Armani’s funeral, which will be held in particular on Monday, September 8, the mayor declared mourning day in the city, as a demonstration of condolences and condolences from the Milanesa community, and the city flag will be in half mast in all municipal buildings. The Italian press points out that now the Armani will will be opened, as it has no children, and it will be distributed the quotas of its industrial empire, with a revenue of 2.3 billion euros and will be managed by the Foundation that created in 2016 to manage the company after its departure and safeguard the governance and ensure the long -term stability of the group.
It will also include the distribution of a 13 billion euros heritage, of which the closest heirs are their sister Rosanna, nieces Silvana and Roberta, their nephew Andrea Camerana and their right -hand arm, Pantaleo Dell’orco, who was always considered part of the family.
