The President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), said on Friday (5) that the Brazilian “far right” will not again govern the country. The Chief Executive mentioned the possibility of running for reelection in 2026.
“There is only one hypothesis that I am not a candidate, if I have any health problems or if any candidate appears better than me. Now one thing I have to say: the far right will not go back to governing this country,” the president said in an interview with “SBT Brazil”.
Lula added that he has not yet decided whether to participate in next year’s election, and cited age as a possible hindrance. The speech had already been made by the president on other occasions. He will be 80 years old next month.
The petista also stated not to choose a “best candidate”.
“I have a political trajectory that who should be concerned are my possible opponents,” he adds. “If I make a decision to be a candidate, I will be a candidate to win the elections”
