Reaching the car and failing to open the driver’s door because another vehicle was leaning against first glance, a typical case of lack of civility. Not always that. In several recent reports, this maneuver emerges as a starting point for fast theft to distracted conductors. According to the Leak technology website, there are situations where ‘glued’ parking is used to force the victim to leave the routine, lower the guard and expose his belongings.
The pattern is repeated. The “offender” vehicle is so close that it prevents normal entry. The driver tries to get around the problem, goes to the passenger side, puts his suitcase in the rear seat, wastes time to look at the damage. It is in this interval that someone appears to “help”.
According to the same publication, the approach is cordial, brief and effective: a gesture to open the door, a question, a discreet push. Theft is consummated in seconds. In parks of shopping centers, hospitals, or poorly guarded areas, stratagem is easily unnoticed.
Signs that should raise distrust
Not every bad parking is a trap. Still, there are signs that deserve attention. If you notice people observing at a distance, approach movements as soon as you try to get into the car, a vehicle that appears and disappears in a coordinated manner or too isolated place, it is best to act prudently.
Leak stresses that some of these episodes start with the blocked car and end with wallets, backpacks and mobile phones taken from the interior, without strength.
What the law says about parking ‘Glued ‘
Even without criminal intention, the legislation is clear. Park to prevent the entry or exit of people constitute an infringement. The road code prohibits this behavior in the scope of the stop and parking regime and provides for fines that, as a rule, oscillate between 30 and 150 euros.
When the block is total or safety is concerned, authorities may order the removal of the vehicle by tow, pursuant to article 163. In case of conflict, calling PSP or GNR is the proper route: the right to access the car is protected and the registration of the occurrence safeguarding it.
How to act without exposing yourself
In a suspicious context, the hurry plays against it. Observe the surroundings before opening doors, confirm that there are people too circulating by your car and keep valuables out of sight. In spaces with surveillance, ask the presence of a security guard to accompany you. If the sense of risk persists, immediately contact the authorities and describe the situation.
Avoid direct confrontation: It is unaware of how many people are involved and to what extent they are willing to force the outcome. Leak recalls that these schemes almost always depend on second distraction; Nullifying this window, dramatically reduces the likelihood of being theft.
The ‘glued’ parking can be just sloppy, but it can also be a trigger for the perfect assault: fast, silent and without visible damage. Treat each case with prudence. If it is only bad education, you have lost nothing because it is cautious; If it is an attempted theft, this attention can avoid a greater scare.
