Peipah typhoon hits Japan and destroys houses; 23 people were injured

Strong gusts of the Peipah Typhoon wind destroyed at least 220 buildings in Shizuoka province on Friday, injuring 23 people, according to NHK public broadcaster.

Local media videos showed roofs torn from homes and listed vehicles.

NHK reported that they were observed in four municipalities in Shizuoka province, including the city of Yoshida and the city of Makinohara.

Makinohara city authorities said three people suffered serious injuries and 20 had minor injuries until 9:30 pm local time (12:30 pm GMT), NHK said.

At least 43 buildings were completely or partially destroyed, and 184 buildings were partially destroyed in the city of Makinnohara, according to NHK.

Peipah was relegated to around 9 pm, local time (12h00 GMT), on Friday, on the east coast of Japan, NHK said.
