The best song not to get sick on a trip

A new study has revealed that smooth and cheerful songs can dramatically reduce sickness symptoms.

Were recruited, for the study this Wednesday in the Frontiers in Human Neuroscience30 volunteers prone to moderate sickness for a simulated driving experience while using electroencephalogram (EEG) lids to monitor brain activity.

Different parts of the cortex were monitored, paying special attention to the occipital lobe, which deals with visual information and often plays a key role in sickness.

Southwest University researchers in China were interested in four types of music, classified as joyful, soft, agitated and sad.

As detailed to, participants were divided into six groups of five-four exhibited to music, one that served as control of “natural recovery” and another whose simulators were stopped when they began to mention that they could feel slightly sick.

The last group served as a point of difference for brain activity data, allowing researchers to compare wave change when sickness settled in the other five groups.

“The sickness of movement significantly impairs the travel experience of many individuals. Existing pharmacological interventions often have side effects such as drowsiness. In turn, music represents a non -invasive, low cost and personalized intervention strategy”, Praised, to New Atlas, the corresponding author of the study, Qizong YueD Southwest University, with something else.

Soft and joyful songs are the best for sickness

Scientists found that cerebral activity in the occipital lobe changed when sickness developed, with less complex waves in this region when participants were beginning to feel moderately sick. Then the better they said they felt as they recovered, the more active they became their signs. And this recovery was different depending on the groups.

A soft and cheerful music produced the greatest reduction in malaisewith an average of 56.7% and 57.3% of relief, respectively.

A Hectic music provided a moderate relief (48.3%).

A Sad music had the worst performance – Worse still than the absence of audio – reducing symptoms by only 40%. This value was lower than the control group, which was 43.3%.

Researchers theorize that the Soft music has a relaxing effectrelieving the tension that aggravates the sickness, and that the Alegre Music to be able to serve as a distractionactivating brain reward systems.

On the other hand, the Sad music has the oppositeamplifying negative emotions and increasing discomfort.

One had already concluded that smooth and cheerful music can relieve emotional tension, redirecting attention and calming the physiological responses triggered by sickness.

This study suggests a non -pharmacological form of combating nausea. THE music carefully selected-in particular the genres that raises humor and have a soothing effect-can become a simple way to relieve a nausea.

“People suffering from sick symptoms during a trip can listen to cheerful or soft music to get relief,” suggested Qizong Yue.
