After the fire, the return: this restaurant in the Algarve opens doors again with the same name but brings changes

The Evaristo restaurant, located at Evaristo beach in Sesmarias, Albufeira, reopened in July, two years after being consumed by a fire. According to SIC Notícias, reopening arises in response to a momentum of Luis Vilarinho, known as Luis Evaristo, who claimed to want to return to society what the space has provided for almost four decades.

Founded in 1986, Evaristo gained notoriety for the proximity to the sea and the offer of grilled fresh fish. According to the same source, in 1992 Luís Vilarinho took the lead, turning the restaurant into a meeting point for those looking for fish and seafood cuisine, but also a personalized welcome environment.

The space crossed several difficult episodes. In 2019 it was partially destroyed by a gas explosion. Later, in 2023, a fire destroyed the space completely. Writes the publication that, despite the setbacks, the restaurant has now rose again with a provisional wooden structure, with about 100 square meters and a capacity of 60 people, equivalent to one third of the previous capacity.

New menu and usual dishes

The kitchen kept the bet on classics that marked Evaristo’s identity. It refers to the same source that returned dishes, such as the ammoles to Bulhão Pato and Lula to Evaristo, the latter marked as a special dish of the house. Changes were introduced to the original recipe, adapted to the use of electric plate instead of the grill.

Explains the site that the menu was complemented with lighter options for lunch, such as the vieiras and mango salad or the burrata with biological tomatoes. Dinner stands out news, such as marbled empty with truffle sauce, wild mushroom ravioli and grilled tiger with fried tai rice.

Between memories and news

The terrace maintains symbols that mark the experience of Evaristo, such as white bleeding and the strong presence of Ruinart champagne, as well as wines from the Herdade da Malhadinha. The space was conceived in rectangular wooden modules, evoking the environment of the original restaurant.

The relaxed atmosphere, described by Luis Evaristo as a “chiringuito”, is complemented by moments of spontaneous animation. Adds the publication that customers sometimes end up turning the terrace into a makeshift stage, bringing instruments or singing in the late afternoon.

The weight of the memories

Louis Evaristo emotion recalls the destruction of the restaurant in 2023, stating that space has always been part of his life. According to, many customer stories remain linked to the scene, including marriage proposal and wedding anniversary celebrations.

For the entrepreneur, the reopening symbolizes more than the resuming of a business. It is a return motivated by passion, which aims to preserve the essence of a space associated with striking experiences for generations of customers.
