The “Innovation Award – Mediterranean Diet” was delivered last Sunday, September 7, during the closing of the XI Tavira Mediterranean Diet Fair, distinguishing three projects and producers from the agri -food sector present in this edition of the event.
In a statement, he stressed that “the vote was attended by the public, responsible for 30% of the final decision.”
First place was attributed to the Gastromar Project, from the Algarve School of Hospitality and Tourism (EHTA), which bets on creative and sustainable preserves, inspired by flavors and Algarve traditions. According to the organization, “the project also constitutes an innovative pedagogical model, in which students assume an active role in all stages of the process: from gastronomic design to prototyping, branding, labeling, sensory analysis and market study”.
Second place was delivered to the company Bees in Tube, from São Brás de Alportel, by presenting “an innovative packaging in pocket-shaped, practical and differentiating, with honey, watermark and pollen-three emblematic beekeeping products”.
Already third place distinguished the company Nova Vida/Semain, which developed “a gluten free beer produced with 100% algarve ingredients, responding to new consumer trends and audiences with specific food needs”.
The second edition of the Award was organized by the Algarve Coordination and Regional Development Commission, IP (CCDR Algarve), in partnership with the Mutual Agricultural Credit Caixa Algarvio, the In Loco Association and the Tavira City Council, with the objective of “valuing innovation in the agrifice sector in articulation with the principles and values of the Mediterranean diet”.
The evaluation of the projects was taken into account “criteria such as the degree of innovation, economic viability, response to market needs and environmental and social sustainability”.
