The President of the Legislative Assembly of, (PSB), allied of the governor (PSB), shared on August 31 the post of a young woman adhesing cars with the name of the secretary of municipal matters of Maranhão, Orleans Brandão.
Orleans is the governor’s nephew and named his name for his succession. Brandão’s allies, such as Iracema, have been declaring support to the secretary in recent months in the dispute for the Palace of Lions.
The post shared by the president of Germa was originally made by nurse Dayane Reis, candidate for councilor by São José de Ribamar in 2024. She wrote: “Good Sunday is like this: in Juçatuba with friends, bearing the name of our friend Orleans.”
Asked, Iracema stated that the post was made on her personal social network (see the full at the end of the note). “I appreciated the manifestation, republished and reached wide audience. Therefore, it was a simple and natural gesture in a context of political effervescence, in which leaders of different parties interact with content that circulates on social networks,” he said.
“Unfortunately, in Maranhão we live strange moments, when opponents resort to political persecution in every way,” he continues. “They accuse others of what they themselves do. I follow with my public page, without hiding preferences or alliances. In fact, I prefer the clear sincerity of a post open to certain veiled practices that everyone knows exist.”
The political scenario in Maranhão has been cracked since the governor has moved away from the group of Minister Flávio Dino, of the Supreme Court (Supreme Court) and former governor of the state.
By agreement made in 2022, Brandão would compete for the Senate next year and support the deputy, Felipe Camarão (PT), in the dispute for the Palace of Lions. However, after the crack, Governor Maranhão has sewed the name of his nephew to replace him in office.

The mentioned post refers to my personal social network, where I share what makes me happy, pleases me, awakens my curiosity, strengthens my faith, as well as some happy moments of my personal and public life. I appreciated the demonstration, republished and reached wide audience. Therefore, it was a simple and natural gesture in a context of political effervescence, in which leaders of different parties interact with content that circulates on social networks.
I was flattered to be observed by a respected means of communication and the strongest in the country. Unfortunately, in Maranhão we live strange moments, when opponents resort to political persecution in every way. They accuse others of what they themselves do. I follow with my public page, without hiding preferences or alliances. In fact, I prefer the clear sincerity of a post open to certain veiled practices that everyone knows existed.
I follow with the peace of those who have a peaceful conscience, besides the unshakable faith in God, trusting that their protection will protect me from everything. I always count on the recognition of the population, the result of my trajectory of over thirty years in public life, marked by transparent, loyal and honest performance. Naturality has always been a feature of mine, because I never hid my preferences or alliances. Also because there is no legal impediment for parliamentarians to express partisan political support in their personal profiles, provided that the limits provided for by the electoral legislation are observed, as in question.
It is worth noting that similar practices have been adopted by several state political actors, in even more ostensive demonstrations, as can be seen in initiatives widely released in the press and on social networks themselves, such as the event “Dialogues by Maranhão”, held in Viana, whose coverage is available publicly:
Thus, the simple gesture of republication, such as reposting stories of publications in which I am marked, often even done by my advisory, represents only empathy and kindness. It is an absolutely normal gesture in democratic life and does not constitute any irregularity.
It has been increasingly common to speak ill of Maranhão and the political class outside the state, without even having the right to present the counterpoint. So I thank you very much and, above all, the care to hear my side. This practice, unfortunately, has become rare. Congratulations on keeping alive the spirit of a journalism that listens, questions and does not fear the counterpoint.
