The episode that in 2022 surprised Coimbra has now gained an unlikely and romantic outcome. Céline Guerreiro, the young woman who descended the monumental stairs of the University of Coimbra behind her Renault Clio’s steering wheel after blindly following the GPS, has just married the man she met… Because of the accident.
At the time, the case ran the country: the car was immobilized in Largo D. Dinis, but the driver escaped unharmed, only with a big fright and what she herself would call “the most famous car in Portugal”.
What no one imagined was that from this episode a love story would be born. Carlos Recocho, a 25 -year -old mechanic who had seen Céline days earlier in the workshop where he worked, took advantage of the unusual accident to approach. First through social networks, then live, until the two started dating in December 2023.
Two years later, on August 29, Céline and Carlos said the “yes”. Today they live in France, but made a point of immortalizing the moment with a photograph… precisely on the stairs where it all started.
“I often say that it was God who sent me on the stairs to make me know my husband,” Céline told Coimbra’s diary, thrilled with the unexpected direction that life reserved.
