Secretary General of the United Nations (UN) António Guterres on Monday He appointed Slovak diplomat Miroslav Jenča as his special representative for Colombia and the UN Head Mission to monitor the peace process in this country. TASR reports this according to the UN press release published on the organization’s website.
Jenča in this post will replace Carlos Ruiz Massieu of Mexico, whom Guterres thanked for his determination and work. “Mr. Jenča brings more than 35 years of experience in the field of diplomacy, mediation, leadership and supervision of UN peace operations, as well as a thorough knowledge of the Colombian peace process and its regional and international context,” the statement said.
Since 2019, Jenča has been the Deputy Secretary General of the UN for Europe, Central Asia and Northern and South America in the UN departments for political and peaceful issues and for peaceful operations. During his career he has held several prestigious positions, including the post of the UN Regional Center for preventive diplomacy in Central Asia (UNRCCA). In the past he also worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic.
Jenča He studied foreign trade at the University of Economics in Bratislava, diplomacy and international relations at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations and diplomacy at the Hoover Institute of Stanford University in the USA. He has a title Dr. Rights from Comenius University in Bratislava and speaks fluent English, Russian and Spanish, the UN added in a press release.
