Is it worth grabbing falling leaves in autumn? What do gardeners say?
Racking leaves on the plot or in the garden is a topic that can cause a considerable headache. Removal of fallen leaves from the lawn or litter has as many opponents and supporters. For many years, raking leaves was a recommended care treatment. Currently, however, many environmentalists point out that there are situations in which it brings more harm than good. It all depends on the situation and place. In Poland, according to the law, every owner of a single -family house or plot is required to remove leaves from pavements and other places where they pose a threat. Wet leaves are slippery and can cause dangerous accidents.
Raking leaves – benefits
Why is it worth plundering the leaves? It can create conditions for mold development on plants. Over time, fungal diseases can develop in these places that will attack bushes and vegetable cuttings. The situation can be particularly dangerous to grass. Falling leaves form a layer that does not pass either air or sunlight. In extreme cases, snow mold may appear on the lawn as a result of which bald pies will appear in the spring without grass growing.
In private terrain it is also aesthetic. Well -groomed grasses and discounts look better without a layer of wet and often rotting leaves.
Leaf rabble – disadvantages
Leaf removal is not always necessary. Environmentalists argue that the layer of grass stops moisture in the soil, and also protects against variable autumn weather conditions. The decaying leaves turn into a natural fertilizer, which even in winter can enrich the soil with the nutrients needed. This kind of protection and fertilization are especially liked by plants that bloom early spring. These are, among others, tulips, crocuses and narcissis.
Unseaned leaves are also animal protection. In piles of leaves, hedgehogs are found in winter.
Where and how best to plunder leaves?
In summary, the leaves are best to plunder at discounts, vegetable gardeners and. There, the leaf cover can cause damage and make the plants get sick. In the case of the lawn, there is also a risk of snow mold. The leaves should also be removed from home pavements, stairs and terraces.
If you have a flower meadow or places where plants spread by themselves, in such a situation it is better to let go of the leaves.
Remember that in Poland you must not smoke collected leaves. It is best to translate them into a composter. In this way, until spring you will have the perfect, ecological fertilizer for plants.
