The Nabi Abi Chedid Stadium, home of Red Bull Bragantino, began demolition process on Tuesday (9). The club received authorization from the city to transform the site, with capacity for 20,000 spectators, with a scheduled conclusion between four and five years.

Why is Bragantino’s stadium being demolished?

The idea with the demolition of Nabi Abi Chedid is to make an arena possible to expand the club’s reach in international competitions and is prepared to host larger events. Part of the old stadium may be preserved, but technical viability is still being evaluated.

The process will be executed in steps: first, disassembly of the metal stands with wooden chairs, followed by the demolition of the older concrete areas. Then the works will advance with earthmoving, foundations and assembly of the definitive structures, including coverage and civil finishes.

The club reported that most demolished materials will be intended for recycling. Equipment that are still enjoyable, as reflectors, should be donated to City Hall for use in other sports complexes in the municipality.

What will be the new Bragantino stadium?

While Nabi Abi Chedid is under renovation, RB Bragantino will play at Cícero de Souza Marques Municipal Stadium, also located in Bragança Paulista, which was recently adapted and renovated with an investment of about $ 22 million, to host the games in the coming seasons.

The provisional space was designed to host the next games of the São Paulo team. Arena’s capacity is 10,000 fans, with improved infrastructure, including lighting, cabins and inclusive accessibility.

Nabi Abi Chedid History

Nabi Abi Chedid Stadium is one of the most traditional stages of Brazilian football. Inaugurated in 1949, it was initially called Marcelo Stéfani, in honor of an former player and important leader in the history of Bragantino.

Over the years, the place has become synonymous with the club’s trajectory, following from the time in the lower divisions to moments of great prominence, such as the title of the 1990 Paulista Championship against Novorizontino.

In addition to sports paper, the stadium also gained fame by the simple structure. With wooden stands and proximity to the field, Nabi Abi Chedid carried a strong emotional bond with the crowd.

In 2009, the stadium adopted the name of Nabi Abi Chedid, former club president and an important figure in local politics.
