The Ministry of Foreign Affairs () condemned on Tuesday (9) the declaration of the on the possibility of economic sanctions or use of the military power of against Brazil. In an official note, the folder stated: “The Brazilian government condemns the use of economic sanctions or threats to use force against our democracy. The first step in protecting freedom of expression is precisely to defend democracy and respect popular will expressed in the ballot box. This is the duty of the three powers of the Republic, which will not be intimidated by any form of attack on our sovereignty.”
Itamaraty also repudiated any attempt by undemocratic groups to instruct foreign governments to pressure national institutions. On the same day, the trial resumed the votes of rapporteur Alexandre de Moraes and Minister Flávio Dino, both for the conviction of Bolsonaro and the seven defendants considered part of the coup plot core. During the session, Dino pointed out that no external pressure will interfere with the STF’s decision: “Will people believe that a tweet of a foreign government authority change a trial in the Supreme?”
