Meet the Hotel do Porto that 'challenges' gravity and where desserts are made in front of the customer

In the heart of Rua de Oliveiras, in Porto, a hotel that seems to ‘play’ with the laws of physics. Chic & Basic Gravity, the first bet of the Spanish hotel group in Portugal, now adds new attractions. In addition to the 70 rooms available, Valentina’s Porto restaurant features a renewed letter and there is an exhibition in the space gallery that gives a new breath to the artistic concept of the hotel.

Valentina’s Porto: Italy at the table, in the city center

Valentina’s Porto restaurant recently inaugurated a letter inspired by traditional Italian cuisine. According to News to Minuto, one of the distinctive brands goes through the service of some dishes with customers, who are finished at the table.

The menu runs through classic flavors with minor reinventions and makes room for seasonal proposals. The meal can start with an antipasti, such as selection of Italian cheese, Parma ham and varied sausages. This start costs 18 euros.

In the main options, diversity is extended. Suggestions include onion raviolis and mozzarella with Padano Grana cheese (17 euros), bisque shrimp risotto and micro mustard (17.50 euros) or rod with lime risotto (24 euros), already considered one of the specialties of the house. Rota eggs with Parma ham, salmon with sweet potato textures and tagliat of bulls complete the list of most sought after dishes.

In the end, the desserts arrive. Gorgonzola’s cheesecake (6.50 euros) and Tiramisú (9 euros) remain in the letter, but with different presentation. The latter, for example, is prepared at the table, which guarantees crispy texture and a cream that fuses at the moment.

The cocktail letter was also reviewed in early summer, alternating between original classics and recreations. For lunch, from Monday to Friday, the restaurant offers a fixed menu for 12.90 euros that includes dish, drink and coffee.

Art that breathes in the interior of the gravity

The hotel gallery, Tra Gallery, hosts since late July the exhibition “Saved – a proof of life” by Pedro Mendonça. According to the same source, it is a visual reflection around the gesture of sharing the air as a symbol of love and survival.

Mendonça, also founder of the Gross Theater Company and the Mosquito clothing brand, presents a set of works that refer to persistent memories and a sense of presence that resists time.

A hotel that challenges visual logic

Chic & Basic Gravity is especially distinguished by the decoration, where everything seems to be in suspension. At the entrance, a hub of mirrors multiplies reflex to infinity. In the lobby, loose letters float on the walls, while plants grow the other way around. In the courtyard, an inverted pool signed by Luís Vidal imposes itself as an artistic installation.

The space, which opened doors in 2018, integrates restaurant, bar and 70 bedrooms. One night in this boutique hotel rounds the 110 euros, with breakfast included. According to, Chic & Basic Gravity remains one of the city’s most singular proposals for those looking for accommodation with integrated artistic experience.
