The Civil Guard has arrested an official of the Mallorcan municipality of Alcúdia for fraudulent registration of 430 foreign people in an irregular situation. Judicial Police investigators suspect that the arrest charged foreigners in exchange for registering them in the municipality, in homes that did not exist or were half -building. The official, who was arrested on Wednesday in municipal offices, is accused of an alleged crime of documentary falsehood. He has spent this Thursday at the courts in the Court of Guard of Inca and has been released with charges.
The investigation started two months ago when a person went to the City Council to claim a duplicate of his registration certificate and the official who attended him found that he did not appear as registered in the municipal system. The Mallorcan Consistory works with two registration programs, one that is directly connected to the National Statistics Institute to which the passport or DNI of the registered person is sent and a second internal program in which all the necessary documentation is attached to formalize the registration. It was in this second program that they detected that this person was not registered. After verifying that the certificate that was duplicated was authentic and had left the municipal offices, the Consistory to discover the origin of the discrepancy, since they found other similar cases.
“We discovered that the certificates left a computer of the statistics department building in the afternoon and we verified who was the official who came at that time, when the offices are closed,” explained the mayor of Alcúdia, Fina Linares, who has indicated that once the author of these registration was discovered, a complaint was filed before the Civil Guard. The municipal services have found that the detainee, an interim official who worked in municipal offices since May 2023, registered in a period of almost two years to 483 people in the register, of which it has been proven that 430 are fraudulently, since the worker enrolled in homes that were half -build, in directions that corresponded to solar or in real estate that did not exist. The mayor has advanced that this Friday will unsubscribe to all these people, since “really” they do not reside in the municipality.
“Seeing that an official can deceive the City Council in this way is a disappointment, also being a person of the town,” said Linares, who stressed that the official, who currently worked in the hiring department, was working for three months in the statistics department and had the internal keys necessary to be able to. The mayor has defended the difficulty of warning a situation such as the one that occurred, since the official did the registration without any pattern in alternate days and weeks. The City Council has initiated a disciplinary file against the detainee and has been made a statement of both him and his department partners waiting for the judicial evolution of the matter. Last Monday agents of the Judicial Police of the Civil Guard went to the municipal headquarters to confiscate the arrest computer and continue with the investigation.
