The investigation of complaints against the former government minister of the Government (PT) as an alleged completed one year without completion. To date, the case continues to investigate by the Federal Police and the Public Ethics Commission (CEP) of the Presidency, under confidentiality.
Sought by SheetSilvio Almeida’s defense reported only that the inquiry is still in the investigation phase by the Federal Police. According to lawyer Juliana Faleiros, who is part of the defense of the former minister, there is no criminal proceedings, not even indictment.

The Ethics Committee investigates the facts in the administrative sphere, as it involves a public agent. The investigation against Almeida was made official at the 27th Extraordinary Cep Meeting of September 6, 2024, one day after the complaints came to public.
The rapporteur of the case at the committee was counselor Edvaldo Nilo, who ended his term in March this year. In its place, today the investigation is under the rapporteur of counselor Maria Lúcia Barbosa. The arrival of the new counselor caused the collegiate to reach the female majority for the first time in history.
“On the news published in press vehicles in the last two days, about alleged cases of sexual harassment involving the Minister of Human Rights and Citizenship, and considering the letter received from the Ministry itself, the Collegiate unanimously deliberated at the 27th Extraordinary Meeting of the Public Ethics Commission (CEP), of September 6, 2024, for the opening of a preliminary procedure, to request clarification to the minister,” the agency’s note after the meeting.
In response to Sheetthe Commission reiterated that, with the ongoing process, the information is confidential until the final decision.
According to Minister André Mendonça of the Supreme Court (STF), he ordered the Federal Police to repeat the testimony of the investigation in which the former minister is accused of sexual harassment in April this year. The decision complied with Almeida’s own request, who argued that the defense were not recorded in audio and video, unlike others previously taken.
The case led President Lula to Silvio Almeida one day after the disclosure of the complaints. Before the decision, the petista met separately with Almeida and, after publishing the resignation, with Franco. Since the episode, the human rights portfolio has been led by Macaé Evaristo.
In the official statement of the dismissal, the government reported that the president considered “the minister to be” unsustainable “in office considering the nature of the accusations of sexual harassment.
Silvio Almeida’s stance since the revelation of the information was to repudiate the accusations and to deny that he had committed the alleged crimes.
The report also sought the Minister Anielle Franco, through the advice of the Ministry of Racial Equality, which did not comment.
The episode generated political clashes within the racial equality portfolio, as well as between the ministry head and the former government colleague. One month after the case revelation, the Minister fired (National System for the Promotion of Racial Equality), which was linked to Silvio Almeida.
The former minister, in turn, even said in an interview with UOL in February this year that Anielle would have “lost in the character” and fallen into a political trap.
At the time, the Minister of Almeida, stating that the former colleague used the public space to disqualify the complaints and intimidate the victims of harassment. Anielle also stated that the “misconduct” against those who denounced was a “repulsive” strategy.
