Convictions include not only prison penalties, but also political, financial and administrative sanctions; Former President Jair Bolsonaro was the accused who had the greatest feeling
The first class of defined on Thursday (11) the penalties for the former president (PL) and seven other defendants accused of involvement in the so-called coup plot, which tried to prevent the inauguration of (PT) in 2023. The convictions include not only prison penalties, but also political, financial and administrative sanctions. The main punishments imposed are:
- Prison: All defendants received imprisonment sentences, with variation according to the degree of participation in the scheme.
- Collective fine: The convicts must pay, together, R $ 30 million as compensation for collective moral damages.
- Loss of positions: Anderson Torres and Alexandre Ramagem lost their positions of Federal Police delegate. Ramagem will also have the mandate of federal deputy revoked, as he was sentenced to closed regime for a period exceeding 120 days – maximum limit of absences expected for parliamentarians.
- Armed Forces: The Supreme Court has determined that, after the final judgment, the Superior Military Court (STM) be announced to evaluate the declaration of unworthiness to Bolsonaro Officer, Augusto Heleno, Paulo Sérgio Nogueira, Braga Netto and Almir Garnier. The measure can result in the loss of military posts and patents.
The decisions followed the vote of the rapporteur, Minister Alexandre de Moraes, who highlighted the coordinated character of the actions to try to make presidential possession unfeasible. Most ministers accompanied Moraes, individually analyzing the conduct of each accused. With the definition of the penalties, the defendants start to respond to a set of sanctions that goes beyond prison, also reaching their political and military careers, as well as imposing high financial cost.
