Largest champion of the Brazilian Cup, Cruzeiro is back in the tournament semifinals after a six -year hiatus.
HEXACACAME, the team today led by coach Leonardo Jardim secured their place among the top four on Thursday (11), with a new 2-0 win over Atlético Mineiro, in Belo Horizonte.
Kaio Jorge, who had already scored one of the goals in the same score in the first leg, at the MRV Arena, opened the scoring after four minutes of Mineirão, braking any reaction from the opponent. Two minutes into the second half, the striker expanded, sealing the classification.
Present in Carlo Ancelotti’s last call for the Brazilian team, the 23 -year -old striker is Cruzeiro’s top scorer of the season, with 20 goals in 33 matches.
In the next phase, Cruzeiro will face Corinthians, who eliminated on Wednesday (10) the Athletico Paraná. The confrontation will be a reissue of the 2018 final, when the mining team won their last competition title.
The team had not reached the semifinals of the Brazilian Cup since 2019. At the time, it was eliminated by Internacional.
The 2025 semifinals are scheduled on December 10 and 14, after the end of the Brazilian Championship.
Fluminense, who defeated Bahia, is also classified. The team awaits the winner of the confrontation between Vasco and Botafogo, in Nilton Santos, later this Thursday. In the first leg in São Januário, the teams were in a 1-1 draw.
