Fernando Collor and Dilma Rousseff suffered impeachment; Lula, Michel Temer and Bolsonaro were sued and arrested
Brazil had 8 civilians in charge of the Planalto Palace since the end of the military dictatorship (1964-1985). In the 40 years of current democracy (1985-2025), 5 presidents have had a problem with justice or suffered impeachment cases in Congress.
(Currently without party) resigned in 1992 at the end of an impeachment process on charges of corruption. In 2015, Collor was the target of Operation Lava Jato and investigations. In 2023, he was convicted of corruption and money laundering. In April 2025 and on May 1 he was allowed to serve the sentence under house arrest.

(MDB) was arrested in 2019, accused of corruption and money laundering in an offshoot of Lava Jato.
(PL) On Thursday (11.SET.2025) by the 1st Panel of the Supreme Court (STF) to 27 years and 3 months in prison for leading an attempted coup at 2022. The penalty must be served initially in closed regime.
The other 3 civilians who were post-dictatorship presidents who had no convictions, arrests did not even lose their position in impeachment proceedings were José Sarney (MDB), (PSDB) and Itamar Franco (who died in 2011).
