President of Brazil also mentioned that there are “hundreds of evidence” of the crime
Brazilian head of state, Lula da Silva, said on Thursday that former President Jair Bolsonaro tried to scam the country and that there are “hundreds of evidence.”
“Bolsonaro tried to blow this country,” said Lula da Silva, in an interview recorded on Thursday morning, before the majority was formed for Bolsonaro’s conviction in court.
“There are dozens, hundreds of tests, written material,” said the president, in an interview with Band, which will be transmitted in full tonight.
Judge Cármen Lúcia voted on Thursday for the conviction of Jair Bolsonaro for coup d’état, guaranteeing the majority of the first class of the Supreme Court in favor of the punishment of the former Brazilian president.
“For me, there is proof of the presence of collusion between these people, in the sense of an organization that integrates, with the leadership of Jair Messias Bolsonaro,” said the judge.
At a time when only the president of the collective, Cristiano Zanin, is missing, with the vote of Cármen Lúcia, three judges voted in favor of the conviction of the former Brazilian president, against a vote for acquittal.
“He is the cause and leader of an organization that promoted all forms of articulation aligned to reach the purpose of maintaining or taking power,” the judge insisted.
Like Alexandre de Moraes and Flávio Dino, the judge voted for the conviction for the five crimes contained in the prosecution of the Attorney General’s Office: attempted violent abolition of the rule of democratic law, coup, participation in armed criminal organization, qualified damage and deterioration of heritage.
Cármen Lúcia also considered, like the other two judges, that the former Brazilian president was the head of the criminal organization who tried to prevent the inauguration of the current president, Lula da Silva, after his victory in the October 2022 elections against Bolsonaro.
Added to all crimes the penalty can reach up to 43 years in prison.
The session began with the exhibition and vote of Judge Cármen Lúcia and may end with the vote of magistrate Cristiano Zanin, president of the first class of the Supreme Court, who, after his verdict, will proclaim the result and only then will the decision be definitive.
After the publication of the judgment, the defense and prosecution may file an embargoes of declaration within five days to correct any contradictions or omissions.
If the decision is not unanimous (3 to 2, with at least two votes for acquittal), the defense may also appeal through infringing embargoes, which lead the divergent matter to the STF plenary, which has 11 judges.
In addition to Jair Bolsonaro, federal deputy Alexandre Ramagem, Admiral Almir Garnier Santos, former Navy Commander, former Justice Minister Anderson Torres, the reserve general and former chief of the Institutional Security Office of the Presidency Augusto Heleno, Lieutenant Colonel and former Bolsonaro Orders, Mauro and former Minister Defense Paulo Sérgio Nogueira and the General in Reserve and former Minister of Civil House Walter Braga Neto.
