Olympic medalist opens Brazil’s participation in the Athletics World Cup

The city of Tokyo will host the 20th edition of the Athletics World Cup, which will start this Friday (12), at 19:30 (Brasilia). Caio Bonfim, silver medalist at the Paris-2024 Olympic Games, will fight for a medal at the athletic march on the first day of the event.

Caio will compete for the 35km men’s proof, as well as Matheus Corrêa and Max Batista. In the female, Viviane Lyra, Elianay Barbosa and Mayara Vicentainer will represent the country at the same time.

Runner-up in Paris, he has two world championship medals: two bronzes in London 2017 and Budapest-2023, both at a distance of 20km.

Among women, Viviane is the main athlete in Brazil in the athletic march. In the last edition, the 32 -year -old carioca finished the 35km race in fourth position, where he broke the Brazilian record with the 2h440s mark.

After the decision in the march, Andressa de Morais and Izabela da Silva will participate in the qualifiers of the album release race, from 21h. Andressa is the current holder of the South American record, with 65.34m.

Finally, Brazil will end its participation in the first session of with the athletes Welington Morais and Willian Dourado, who will seek a place in the final in the thrush at 10:55 pm.

Eighth place in the last World Cup and fourth at the Tokyo-2020 Olympics, Darlan Romani will be out of the Tokyo edition, as he still recovers from two spine surgeries.
