Shots fired during a fight between organized fans left one person dead and another injured on Thursday (11) in Oswaldo Cruz, northern Rio de Janeiro. The fight took place hours before the classic between Vasco and Botafogo, for the quarterfinals of the Brazilian Cup, at Nilton Santos Stadium.
Members of Vasco’s young force, the club’s main organized, were the victims of the shots. Both were rescued to the UPA (Emergency Care Unit) of Campinho, neighborhood, but one of them died on the way.
The names of the victims were not informed.
The young fury, Botafogo’s main organized, denied participation in the confusion. In an official statement on the networks, he said he has no involvement with the episode “and supports the club” in a peaceful, responsible and respectful way. “
Vasco and Botafogo’s organized fans have alliance history. Police are investigating whether there was a participation of any organized Flamengo fans. According to an investigator, accounts linked to one of the red-black fans celebrated the confusion.
A video that circulates on social networks shows a group of about 50 members of Vasco’s young force walking down João Vicente Street in Oswaldo Cruz, on the edge of the train line, when they are surprised by gunshots.
One group tries to retreat, but another continues to walk.
Another video shows fans entering a market to protect themselves. One of them sits on the floor and says he took a shot in the foot.
Military Police said it went to the scene to reap information and try to capture those involved, but the perpetrators had fled. The corporation said it reinforced patrolling in the region after the case.
The fight took place 7 km from the Nilton Santos stadium, where the return of the Brazilian Cup was held back. Vasco and Botafogo drew 1-1 in normal time, even the score of the first leg. The Cruzmaltina team won on penalties 5-3.
Vasco has another classic ahead and faces Fluminense in the semifinal, on December 10th and 14th. Corinthians and Cruzeiro face each other in the other key.
