Donald Trump announced the plan to deploy a National Guard in Memphis to combat crime. He also received support from the mayor and indicated other interventions.

US President Donald Trump said on Friday that he plans to deploy the National Guard troops to combat crime in Memphis, Tennessee with the support of the local mayor and governor. According to AFP, Reuters and AP reports, TASR informs.

“We are going to Memphis. Memphis is deeply problematic. The mayor is happy, the governor is happy. We will solve it exactly as we did in Washington,” said US President in an interview for Fox News, adding that a similar step can follow in other cities, such as New Orleans in Louisian.

Deployment of soldiers

Last month, Trump sent soldiers to Washington to “restore the law, order and public security”. He justified his decision to high crime in the city. The President also took control of the metropolitan police and sent federal units, including members of the immigration and customs office to oversee the order in the city streets.

Plans for other cities

A similar step has been repeatedly considered in several cities with traditional Democratic Party support, including Chicago and Baltimora, AP recalls.
