WASHINGTON (Reuters)-United States Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau warned on Thursday that Washington can take action against foreigners who praise, rationalize or minimize conservative, adding that he instructed consular staff to take appropriate measures.

“In the light of yesterday’s terrible murder of an important political figure, I want to emphasize that foreigners who glorify violence and hatred are not welcome visitors in our country,” Landau said in a publication on the X platform.

“I was disgusted to see some people on social networks praising, rationalizing or making little case of the event and directed our consular staff to take the right measures.”

Asked about Landau’s publication, a state department spokesman said that “this government does not believe that the United States should be given a view to people whose presence in our country is not aligned with US national security interests.”

He did not answer, however, to the questions about whether anyone had been identified to have a revoked visa or how consular staff would evaluate the persons indicated in response to Landau’s publication.
