Earthquake occurred 111 kilometers east from the Russian city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy
A 7.4 magnitude earthquake hit the Kamchatka peninsula at the east of Saturday (13), reported the United States Geological Service. The earthquake occurred 111 kilometers east of the Russian city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy, at a depth of 39.5 km.
There was no risk that the earthquake had caused a tsunami, according to the Pacific Tsunamis Alert Center (PTWC). The previous analysis gave a magnitude of 7.5 before reducing it to 7.4.
The PTWC had informed that “dangerous” waves were possible along the coast within 300 km from the epicenter of the earthquake. Later, the center stated that the “threat of Tsunami (…) has passed”.
In July, one of the strongest earthquakes ever reached the front of the Kamchatka Peninsula, generating tsunamis up to four meters high throughout the Pacific and AO evacuations.
