Arrives leads. Portuguese only perceive short texts. It will not be coincidence

Data this year suggest that lower level of education benefits arrives. Pay less attention to the (real) news will also help.

It was news that will have surprised some Portuguese. Others don’t even. The poll puts arrival like the party with more voting intentions.

It is the first poll that puts it for some elections – even if there are no (legislative) elections marked.

With 26.8% voting intentions, André Ventura’s party exceeds 25.9% of AD and 23.6% of PS. The three political forces are very close but the leader is the arrival. For the first time.

Only short texts (and titles)

This poll was published only two days after the publication of a report of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), which shows that 46% of the Portuguese – between 25 and 64 years – can only perceive simple and short texts.

Almost half of the Portuguese have a hard time interpreting texts and can only understand very short texts and with the minimum of relevant information.

Adults with higher education are easier to understand and analyze text: on average, they had 36 points than those who were for secondary education, and 70 points of respondents without the 12th grade completed.

It will not be coincidence

In this year’s legislative elections, the arrival got 22% of votes among voters with secondary or lower education; But among the voters with complete higher education, it was 11% of the votes. It’s half. And it is by far the most evident difference in the three largest political forces in this context, it is found on the portal.

It is one of the evidence, along with other inquiries and polls, which suggest that voters with lower level of education and lower news consumption support more arrival.

More than not consuming news, or reading only short texts (or even titles), many of these voters also rely more on polarized or alternative – and often false information sources.

This pattern can contribute to support for parties such as arrival, which often use a radical discourse, polarizing communication.

The problem is accentuated when, between the short texts or the titles they read (in the diagonal), they also make a selective reading. Translating: André Ventura said Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa went to one – when he went to a citizens’ party; He said the President of the Republic has already made 1,550 trips – when he made 165 trips.

Those who read short texts, or be for the titles, and on top of that you choose to consume and share, only if it was the first nomination: Marcelo was really the hamburgers and the French, and has already made “about 2,000 trips, or more”. By this time, “information” has already reached this scale.
