Tradition inversed upside down
In the winter collection IKEA Vinterfft 2025 there will be a line designed by Gustaf Westman, consisting of 12 elements covering porcelain dishes, candlesticks and an original vase. Her intention is to emphasize that everyday life also deserves a celebration – not only on public holidays. Instead of duplicating patterns, the collection breaks conventions, introducing home the energy of joint meetings and carefree fun. It is an invitation that even short moments take on a unique character – regardless of whether it will be a joint dinner, a cup of coffee or decorating a table with loved ones. Community, openness and freedom become the language of modern design here, which interprets tradition again.
“For me, this cooperation was an opportunity to turn traditional Christmas aesthetics upside down and introduce more fun and courage. This is my interpretation of Christmas – a new design for the new generation.” – says Gustaf Westman.
Gustaf Westman is a 31-year-old designer from Stockholm who has gained popularity thanks to the characteristic approach to design. His designs are distinguished by soft lines, bold use of color and an element of fun, which brings lightness to everyday interiors. Inspired by Memphis style, the fashion and continuity of forms, he creates objects combining simplicity, expressive identity and accessible character – features that have become his hallmark.
Colors that break the schemes
The characteristic, sculptural shapes of Westman were combined with a bold color palette. In addition to classic red and greenery, there are pink in the shade of balloon rubber and a delicate blue – a combination that transforms known symbols into something light and modern. Each element of the collection brings its own interpretation of winter customs – light, full of energy and fun.
Table as a heart of meetings
The focal point of the collection was the table – a meeting place and daily conversations. It is on him that it is best to see the courage of this proposal: porcelain plates contrast with a square form with a soft, round center, and set together resemble a colorful mosaic. A special plate for meatballs is a nod to the Swedish culinary tradition and the jubilee – this year the iconic meatballs celebrate the 40th anniversary on the IKEA menu. The cup and saucer set designed not only for coffee or tea, but also to the mulled Glögg infusion, refers to the traditions of common refreshments. A larger saucer allows you to fit cakes, gingerbread or other additives, thanks to which the usual break at work turns into a small ritual.
“In Sweden, it’s hard to imagine Christmas without meatballs. This plate is my nod to tradition – a simple, funny idea that will also work in many other situations.” – adds Gustaf Westman.
Lighting that builds the atmosphere
The collection also included light. From the contemporary interpretation of the classic window candlestick, through porcelain lanterns, to a portable lamp with a spherical, fold -out shape – all elements combine the function with fun, creating a mood conducive to common moments.
A vase that surprises
The element of the collection that attracts attention is a vase, whose spring metal structure has a glass insert. This non -obvious form combines lightness, function and humor. The spiral frame supports the flowers, and at the same time gives the whole playful, dynamic character.
“Round form is endless, which gives the object more life. This vase is an example of this – its shape is uninterrupted, and at the same time brings the element of fun thanks to its elasticity. It is a combination of two parts that seemingly do not need each other, but together they create a full – like two parts of the puzzle.” – says Gustaf Westman.
The limited IKEA collection in cooperation with Gustaf Westman will be available in Poland from October 1, 2025 as part of the Winter Vinterfft line. It will be available for purchase in all 11 large -scale IKEA stores and online sales from 9 am. The products will be available while stocks last.
