The decision to terminate the production of internal combustion engines in the European Union will be annulled. In an interview for Sunday Welt am Sonntag, this was stated by the President of the European People’s Party (EPP) Manfred Weber, saying that the proposal will be submitted in the fall. TASR informs this based on the DPA report.
“I promise Europeans that the ban on internal combustion engines will be abolished,” Weber said. The head of the strongest faction in the European Parliament (EP) stressed that It supports the target of climate neutrality in Europe, but the way to achieve it must remain open. “The ideological errors of the past parliamentary term must be corrected,” Weber said.
“It is important that we provide jobs in the automotive industry and get to our part of employees,” He added a Christian Democratic politician. According to him, the revision of the EU climate policy should also be supported by left -wing politicians, which would help slow the rise of right -wing populists.
In the EU, on the basis of the current legislation from 1 January 2035, no new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles that burn petrol or diesel should not be registered.
