The employee of the immigration and customs office (Ice) fatally shot a man who tried to escape the detention on Friday in the suburbs of American Chicago by hitting the office by car. The office itself informed about the incident, TASR writes, according to AP reports and NBC News.

In his statement, the ICE said that the detained man had put resistance and tried to come across the authorities by his vehicle, one of which was then dragged behind. “In fear of his life, the office worker fired from his weapon and hit the suspect,” stated the office. The injured policeman and the shot man were then taken to the hospital. The man was declared dead in the hospital. The cop suffered severe injuries and is in a stabilized state.

The Office’s spokesman said the staff on Friday morning carried out the vehicle control under the “targeted police action”. The Ministry of Internal Security identified a shot man like Silveria Villegas-Gonzalez. In its statement, the Ministry stated that it was “the aim of the police action” and that he came to the United States “at an unknown time and date”. At the same time, the man was supposed to have a record of several “unscrupulous driving by car”.

Ministry spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin declared that “Viral videos on social networks and activists encouraging illegal immigrants to impose resistance to law enforcement authorities” increased the risk of working ICE.

Democratic Governor of the State Illinois JB Pritzker said in social networks that he was informed of the case. “The situation is evolving and the people of Illinois deserve a complete and factual explanation of what happened today to ensure transparency and responsibility,” he wrote.

Local legislators and proponents of immigrants rights organized on Friday afternoon in response to this incident press conference. “This report hit us deeply because we witnessed how Ice in Illinois intensified racial profiling and unconstitutional interventions, and these tactics led to the death of one of the members of our community,” Hernandez, Democratic MP, said.

The tragic death of Villegas-Gonzalez occurred after the beginning of the week Ice has launched its campaign for stricter enforcement of immigration laws throughout Illinois, focusing mainly on Chicago.
