The American delegation negotiated with Taliban in Kabul. The discussion focused on the potential exchange of prisoners and investments, Washington has not yet responded to the results of the meeting.

Minister of Foreign Affairs in the government of the Afghan fundamentalist movement Taliban Amín Khán Muttaki met with an American delegation under the leadership of the Ambassador for Hostage Adam Boeler on Saturday, said the Afghan Diplomacy department in a statement. The talks focused on bilateral ties or potential exchange of prisoners, TASR reports according to DPA report.

Boehler was accompanied by former US ambassador to Kabul Zalmay Khalilzad, who helped negotiate a peace agreement between the US and Taliban in Dauhe in 2020. In addition, Boehler said the US would continue to negotiate prisoners’ exchange.

Washington did not respond

“Adam Boehler, referring to the detained citizens by the United States and Afghanistan, said they would exchange prisoners,” said the Afghan Deputy Prime Minister, according to AFP. Washington did not respond immediately to the envoy and did not approach the potential exchange of prisoners.

The previous visit to the US delegation in Kabul took place in March 2025 and led to the release of an American citizen detained for more than two years in Afghanistan. Taliban described the agreement on the dismissal of Qatar as a “humanitarian” gesture and a “manifestation of goodwill”.

Both countries had previously made an exchange of prisoners in which American citizens Ryan Corbett and William Wallace McKenty were dismissed in exchange for Khan Muhammad, an Afghan citizen sentenced to two life sentences in the US.
