Trump and Si Jin-Pching is expected to answer the US. Negotiations in Madrid will include business topics and questions around the Tictok application.

China formally invited US President Donald Trump to Beijing to a summit with Chinese leader Si Jin-Pching. But the White House has not yet responded, because the positions of both countries are still very distant on key business issues and Fentanyl’s flow. This was stated on Saturday by the renowned Financial Times (FT) newspaper. TASR informs about this based on Reuters and DPA reports.

Insufficient progress for negotiations between the US and China has reduced the likelihood of the Summit of Presidents in Beijing. Trump and Si Jin-Pching will probably only meet in the October forum of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation in South Korea, FT reported, referring to sources familiar with the situation.

However, the United States and China are planning to resume negotiations on the customs dispute next week, the US Department of Finance said on Friday (12 September). US Finance Minister Scott Bessent will meet in Madrid with Chinese representatives, including Deputy Prime Minister Che Lifeng, who also led the previous negotiations.

Social networks will also come to shake

According to the US, Bessent plans to discuss the economic, commercial and national security issues, as well as the application of the social media. The exact meeting time was not confirmed. Bessent has a planned visit to Spain and the United Kingdom from 12 to 18 September. Interviews in Madrid will be followed by previous rounds of negotiations in Geneva, London and Stockholm.

In May, the two largest world economies agreed to suspend high mutual duties to create space for negotiations on questionable issues. Cutures on the import of Chinese goods to the US thus fell to 30 % and US imports to China to 10 %. Previously, the United States increased import duties to Chinese goods to 145 % in several stages, and China responded up to 125 % by retaliatory duties.

Washington also urges the American Ticteok Division. The time limit for the agreement expires 17 September. Since Tiktok is owned by Chinese company Bytedance, American officials are concerned that the Chinese government could gain access to data from the US or influence public opinion. Tiktok denied these claims.
