The Brazilian team debuted on Sunday (14) at the men’s volleyball World Cup with a turn of 3 sets to 1 against China.

Third in the world ranking and favorite against the Asian team, 26th in the world, Brazil won the confrontation with partials of 19/25, 25/23, 25/22 and 25/21.

The 21 -year -old pointer Arthur Bento was the team’s main scorer in the match with 17 points.

In the next rounds, the team led by Bernardinho faces the Czech Republic, on Monday (15), and Serbia, on Wednesday (17).

In the first phase, the 32 teams are divided into eight groups of four. The first two of each group advance to the knockout phase.

The round of 16 take place from the 20th, with the final scheduled for the 28th, in Pasay City.

Brazil won the competition three times, in 2002, 2006 and 2010, with victories about Russia, Poland and Cuba, respectively.

The team also have three vices in 1982, when it was surpassed by the then Soviet Union, and in 2014 and 2018 against Poland.

In the last edition, in 2022, Brazil took the bronze, defeated by Poland in the semifinals, and beating Slovenia in the fight for third place.

Italy is the current champion and the second largest winner of the World, with four titles. Russia leads, with six achievements.
