Since 2020, no team has been able to overcome Corinthians women’s team in the Brazilian women’s championship. Cruzeiro came close on Sunday (14), but the Brabas – as the Corinthians players are known – made the advantage of deciding in the face of their fans at the Neo Chemistry Arena in Sao Paulo to win 1-0 and reach the sixth consecutive title in the competition. In the first leg, last Sunday (7), at Arena Independência, in Belo Horizonte, the score was 2-2.

The triumph, which frustrates the dream of a national trophy for the Minas Gerais club this year, represents the seventh achievement of alvinegras in the competition – the first was in 2018.

With a public of 41,130 people, including visiting fans, the final recorded the highest income in the history of women’s football in Brazil, of R $ 1,237,699.00.

Although he made the best campaign of the first phase, with 36 points, 80% of success and only one defeat (precisely for Corinthians), Cruzeiro played as a visitor in the return match of the final because the second best of the first phase, with 34 points, 75% of use and also only one defeat (for Palmeiras), scored more points in the accumulated Mata.

This Sunday, Corinthians kept dominance in midfield and went to attack more. In the first half, visitors were solid in defense and bet on counterattacks.

With many fouls, the best chances of goal came from stopped balls until, at 34 minutes, midfielder Gaby Soares finished at the entrance of the area and hit the crossbar, almost opening the scoring for Cruzeiro. On the Corinthian side, the team’s top scorers, Jhonson and Gabi Zanotti, each with eight goals in the competition, came with danger, but without hitting the goal.

Packed by the fans, Lucas Piccinato’s team returned from the break with even more pressure ahead. The marker was opened on 4 minutes, after goalkeeper Camila Rodrigues rebounded in Duda Sampaio’s kick and the ball left to defender Thaís Ferreira finish in front of an open goal.

In the last ball of the game, Cruzeiro’s top scorer in the championship, Leticia Ferreira, received free on the second post, but sent outside the network.

To reach the decision, the Brabas surpassed Bahia in the quarterfinals, 4-1 in the sum of the two games, and São Paulo, 4-2 in the aggregate, in the semifinal. The cruise eliminated Bragantino (2-0 in the aggregate) and Palmeiras (4 to 3).

With a professional team formed in 2019, the Cruzeiro players sought the fourth title of their history, and the first nationwide, after three Mineiro Championship trophies, in 2019, 2023 and 2024.

“We can not fail to exalt our entire trajectory. We ended first, we arrived in a large final, we had a beautiful party in Belo Horizonte, had a beautiful party here too; I think this is to be exalted,” said Byanca Brasil, striker of Cruzeiro, after the end of the match. “It is learning from today so that we can stand out and then seek the title.”

Tamires took advantage of the post-game interview to provoke the opponents. “Game is won on the pitch, at each point. They celebrated before saying ‘we are the leader’ and now we show who is the leader here.”

Despite the broad dominance in Brasileirão in recent years, Corinthians recently had remarkable defeats in other tournaments. In Paulista 2024, he lost to Palmeiras on penalties, and in March this year, was surpassed by São Paulo in Supercopa.

Still in 2025, the alvinegra team will compete in the Copa Libertadores, Paulista and the Brazil Cup, in which they eliminated Cruzeiro in early August. The cabulaous are still in the Mineiro Championship dispute.
