Number one key heads, the paulistana Luisa Stefani and the Hungarian Timea Babos won on Saturday (13) the title of pairs of the first edition of SP Open, with a victory turned by 2 sets to 1 against Ingrid Martins and Laura Pigossi.

The partials were 4/6, 6/3 and 10/4, in a game of 1h29 played at the Quadra Maria Esther Bueno, in Villa-Lobos Park, in São Paulo.

Favorites to keep the title, Stefani, 22nd in the ranking, and Babos, 23, began to compete at the beginning of the year and are today the eighth best duo in the world in the season. MARTINS, 69th in the world, and Pigossi, 105th, played together for the first time in the tournament of the state capital.

Stefani and Babos had not lost sets until the final. Passed the British Alicia Barnett and the Frenchman Elixane Lechemia in the round of 16 with double 6/4 and 6/4, and defeated Argentina Solana Sierra and the Mexican Renata Zarazúa by double 6/2 in the quarterfinals. In the semis, they hit the American Anna Rogers and Indonesia Janice Tjen 6/3 and 6/2.

A Brazilian did not win the title of doubles of a WTA tournament in Brazil since 1986, when Niege Dias and Patricia Medrado were champions in Guarujá.

The first tournament of the two together was at the WTA 500 of Linz, Austria, in February, when they got the title. They also beat the WTA 500 from Strasbourg, France, and advanced to the quarterfinals in the Grand Slam of Wimbledon and US Open.
