The Minister of Health, Alexandre Padilhasaid on Saturday (13) that the expectation of the government is that private hospitals will start and expand in September the attendances under the program Now there are specialists.
Padilha stated that 192 hospitals have already expressed interest in participating in the initiative, which seeks to ensure access to specialized health for the population.
“We have fulfilled the goal of the first contracts to be signed in August, now the expectation, in September, is already having a higher volume of calls, not only the signed contracts,” he said at a news conference in Brasilia.
The program was launched in May to accelerate patient care SUS (Unified Health System) with medical experts. This Saturday, Padilha and the President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) visited the Hub (University Hospital of Brasilia) during a national joint effort to reduce SUS queues.
“[Até o momento]192 private hospitals have already expressed interest, that is, they have already joined the program. Of these, 37 have already been approved and is being agreed with states and municipalities when they call the patients, ”he said.
According to the minister, part of the hospitals awaited the advance of the MP (provisional measure) about the creation of the program in Congress. On Wednesday (10), the proposal was approved in the Joint Commission that analyzed the measure. Now the text still needs to be voted in the House and Senate plenary.
Among other actions, the MP foresees the exchange of debts of health plans and private hospitals for care to SUS. The government program also aims to increase the capacity of the public network, with the performance of joint efforts and expansion of service hours.
“The fact that it was unanimously approved [na comissão] It also makes more hospitals want to join, because we are also waiting for the conclusion of the provisional measure, ”he said.
At this Saturday’s event, Lula stated that the program was also conceived in the management of Nísia Trindade at the Ministry of Health.

Lula defended at the event, in a joke, the change in the name of Ebserh (Brazilian Hospital Services Company). According to the chief executive, the title of the institution looks like a “gringo name” and needs to have a greater popular appeal.
Asked, Padilha stated that change is a Lula orientation and that there is a legal issue under analysis. “It’s his orientation,” he said. The company is linked to the Ministry of Education and deals with the management of university hospitals in the country.
“Arthur Chioro [presidente da Ebserh] and Minister Camilo [Santana, da Educação] They were already saying that we were already thinking of changing the name to show the strength including this network. We are talking about the largest public network of hospitals in the global south, ”he said.
