Visit by the US Secretary of State occurs after Israel tried to kill Hamas terrorists at Qatar while studying the last US ceasefire proposal; Attack irritated Donald Trump
The Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, said on Sunday (14), after visiting the Jerusalem Wall Wall with the Secretary of State of, Marco Rubio, that the relationship between the two countries “has never been so strong.”
“Under the presidency of Donald Trump and with Secretary Rubio, this alliance has never been so strong and we appreciate it deeply,” said Israeli prime minister when visiting the underground tunnels of the regrets, accompanied by the US ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabe, and their respective wives.
Earlier, the three prayed together on the Wailing Wall, the most sacred place of Judaism, and Rubio did it using a kipa on his head. Subsequently, they placed their respective paper notes between the walls of the wall, following the Jewish tradition of writing prayers, desires or dreams.
Netanyahu and Rubio prayed in the wall reserved for men, near which there was a place prepared for the press to follow and cover the visit. Women journalists, however, did not have access to this point, as noted by the EFE agency.
“You should follow the visit across the wall, where women pray. You can’t be here,” a security officer told reporters. Asked about this, Sara Netanyahu, wife of the Israeli leader, also did not comment when she visited the Women’s Wall area where she prayed.
Rubio’s visit, who landed in Israel on Sunday, occurs five days after Israel tried to kill Hamas terrorists at Qatar while studying the last US ceasefire proposal, an attack that annoyed US President Donald Trump.
Qatar is an ally from the US and one of the main mediators in negotiating a ceasefire for the Gaza Strip. However, Rubio did not comment or answer the press questions during his visit to the wall. “I believe that Rubio’s visit here is a testimony of the durability and strength of the Israeli American alliance, which is as solid and lasting as the stones of the lamentation wall we just played,” said Israeli leader.
In addition to the expected meeting with Netanyahu, there are no other details of Rubio’s official agenda in Israel. Coinciding with Rubio’s visit, a tribute to conservative commentator Charlie Kirk, who was murdered last Wednesday at a university event in Utah (USA), will be held in Jerusalem on Sunday, attended by the Minister of Diaspora and the fight against Israeli anti-Semitism, Amichai Chikli.
In addition, a US state delegation will visit Israel on Monday and will be received by Netanyahu at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, after which he will attend an event at Knesset (Parliament) in Jerusalem.
