A 52 -year -old man died and 25 people were injured following an explosion at a bar in Vallecas, Madrid, according to information from the Emergency Service of the Spanish capital.
The man was found in a basement, under more than a meter of sand and rubble, in the building where the explosion took place, the Madrid emergency service, quoted by the news agency Efe, said.
The body was found at dawn, after a new search for firefighters, together with the National Police Cinotechnical Unit, in the rubble of the explosion, which originated in the “MIS Tesoros” bar.
In addition to a death, the explosion caused injuries to 25 people, three of them in serious condition, two of whom arose the most concern.
According to the authorities, the explosion was caused by “a concentration of gases.”
Firefighters pointed out that the building has a concrete and steel structure that turned out to be “severely affected” in an area between 50 and 60 square meters, but warned that “it is necessary to make a complete assessment”.
The local executive informed the residents of the building, with nine fireworks, who will be resolved “at least for a few days” after damage to the structure.
According to Emergencies Madrid, cited by Efe agency, there are 13 units of these services and 18 municipal firefighters, as well as the canine unit.
