Gypsy potatoes This is a unique dish that combines the simplicity of ingredients with a sophisticated explosion of flavors. It is a rustic dish that you will prepare not only on the stove, but also in the oven or even on a camping outfit. Soft, golden potatoes combine with smoked bacon and slightly sweet carrot. This is an addition to dinner that will delight not only the household, but also guests during family meetings or barbecue. The simplicity of preparation is also a big advantage, the dish is almost completely alone.
To prepare this recipe, you will need:
- PLN 750 g of type B potatoes,
- 300 g carrots,
- 300 g of smoked bacon in slices,
- 150 g of onion,
- 1 head of garlic,
- 3 tablespoons of olive oil,
- 1.5 teaspoons of basil,
- 1 teaspoon of salt,
- 1 teaspoon of black pepper.
Peel the potatoes and cut into medium -sized cubes.
Cut the carrots into a small size, and finely chop the onion and garlic.
Large pot with a thick bottom, preferably cast iron, put on aluminum foil. Lay slices of bacon at the bottom.
Then lay with layers: potatoes, carrots, onions with garlic. After each three, sprinkle the top with a part of the spices and pour a little olive oil.
Cover the pot with a lid and put it on low heat. Bake a gypsy potatoes on a slow fire for about 1.5 hours. Every 20 minutes, shake the pot firmly so that the ingredients mix with each other, and the fat melted from bacon covered the potatoes.
Serve the potatoes in gypsy, immediately after preparation. You can also store them in the fridge and use it within 3 days. Heat individual portions in a pan or in the oven.
