CABUL (Reuters)-United States officials talked on Saturday with Cabul’s authorities about Americans detained in Afghanistan, according to the Taliban government, while the White House pressures to free citizens who consider unjustly detained abroad.
Adam Boehler, Trump’s special government envoy, and Zalmay Khalilzad, a former US Special S home to Afghanistan, met with Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi.
The two sides will continue conversations in the future, “especially in relation to citizens in prison in each other’s countries,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Afghan said in a statement.

The US State Department and the White House did not immediately respond to requests for comments. Khalilzad, who led the peaceful negotiations with Taliban before the Afghanistan was taken in 2021, did not respond to a telephone call asking for comments.
A source familiar with the Trump administration’s position said there was frustration in Washington with the slow Taliban process to comply with its international commitments on rights and hostages, which diminished the prospects for an agreement on critical minerals or to improve broader relationships.
