President travels next weekend to the United States, where he has a series of events that will take place on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly
President Luiz Inacio da Silva will participate next week in meetings to discuss democracy, climate issues and the search for a peaceful solution for his stay at. The events will take place on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (). As usual, the Brazilian president will make the opening speech at the event, on the 23rd. The information was confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the morning of Monday (15). Prior to the main event of the president’s trip, Lula participates in the opening of Climate Week, on the 22nd. The event aims to discuss changes to combat the climate crisis and the energy transition.
On the same day, the petista participates in the meeting promoted by the governments of France and Saudi Arabia in relation to Palestine. The French president, announced that the country would recognize the state of Palestine in September. Last Friday (12), the United Nations (UN) approved the New York Declaration, with the aim of stimulating a two-state solution to the conflict in.
“Today, under the leadership of France and Saudi Arabia, 142 countries have adopted the New York statement about the implementation of the two -state solution. Together, we are outlining an irreversible path towards peace in the Middle East,” Macron said on social networks last week. “France, Saudi Arabia and all his partners will be in New York to make this plan of peace a reality at the conference on the solution of two states.”
The day after the UN General Assembly, Lula will preside over a meeting on democracy. Discussions about multilateralism and defense of democracy will be part of the debate held in New York.
Also on the 24th, the Brazilian president participates in the Summit of the NDCs (acronym in English that refers to the nationally determined contributions, commitments that countries assume to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions). The event is organized by UN Secretary-General António Guterres. The purpose of the meeting is to promote a debate on the difficulties of complying with these national commitments and what it is possible to improve the collective responses of countries.
Lula travels over the weekend to the United States and is expected to return after these agendas. According to Itamaraty, all bilateral meetings that the Brazilian president will have with heads of state from other countries during his stay in New York are not defined. The only one already confirmed is with the UN Secretary-General, just before Lula’s participation in the opening of the General Assembly.
