It will host on Tuesday (16) an event in honor of the two years of the Alliance of the states of Sahel, defined by the movement as “part of the struggle for African emancipation and against imperialism.”
The bloc is made up of three African West countries –Mali, Niger and Burkina FASSO – which are ruled by military joints after overthrowing democratically elected presidents since 2020. They are located at Sahel, a semi -arid transition track between the African savanna and the Sahara Desert.
The trio, composed of former French colonies, also moved away from the former metropolis and the West and approached, even sheltering
The event will bring together militants from the three countries, which are among the top ten in the world, according to the UN human development rate.
The dossier “The Sahel in search of sovereignty” will also be launched, from the Tricontinental Institute of Social Research, as well as the display of a documentary, musical performances and typical snacks and drinks. The event takes place in a MST warehouse in downtown São Paulo.
“The member countries of the Sahel State Alliance are not dictatorships but popular uprisings against French colonialism and US imperialism,” says Messilene Gorete, coordination of the MST Internationalism Sector.
“The MST conducts this activity together with Alba Movements, which agglutates several internationalist movements, in solidarity with the state of Sahel, due to imperialist and colonialist attacks that reach African countries in the region,” adds Gorete.
