The North Atlantic Alliance (NATO) is in war with Russia and is actually involved in providing direct and indirect support to Ukraine, The Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced on Monday. Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev shortly before warned that Moscow would consider the protection of the Ukrainian airspace NATO as a declaration of war, TASR reports according to DPA and Newsweek.
NATO, in response to an incident of September 10,, when approximately 20 Russian drones disrupted the Polish airspace, launched Eastern Sentry’s operation to strengthen the protection of the Eastern Wing of the Alliance. Warsaw also activated Article 4 of the North Atlantic Treaty, which means consultation between Member States on a security threat.
The penetration of the Russian drone was also reported on Saturday by Romania. Therefore, it summoned the Russian ambassador Vladimir Lipayev, who described this incident as “further provocation” by Ukraine.
The latest events, according to DPA, have evoked a discussion on the extension of NATO protection in Europe to the western part of Ukraine and shooting down Russian drones or missiles in this area. Medvedev, who currently works as Vice -President of the Council of Security of the Russian Federation, has sharply objected to such proposals.
“The realization of the provocative idea of Kiev and other idiots to create a no -fly zone over ‘Ukraine’ and to allow NATO countries to shoot down our drones will mean only one: NATO war with Russia,” Written by a Russian politician on the telegram network.
From the beginning of the Russian invasion in February 2022, Ukraine calls on it to introduce a no -fly zone above its territory. Western Allies, however, are reluctant to take such a step, for concerns about direct military confrontation with Russia.
Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski on Monday’s interview for the German daily Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung said that the no -fly zone over Ukraine was discussed a year ago when he was US president Joe Biden. According to Sikorský, NATO should consider such a possibility, because by shooting out enemy objects outside its territory, it could better protect its own population and prevent the impact of the ruins of destroyed drones.
Peskov at Monday’s press briefing expressed the belief that NATO was in the war with Russia. “It is evident and does not need any further confirmation. NATO is de facto involved in this war”Said the spokesman of the Russian President to the previous statement of Sikorski that despite the penetration of Russian drones into Poland airspace, NATO is not in war with Russia.
As Newsweek magazine explains, Ukraine has received considerable assistance from NATO allies, including the US and EU countries, to defend against the ongoing Russian invasion. According to him, the Alliance is not directly involved in the war and does not have forces deployed there. Ukraine is also not a member of NATO.
